About Orthodoxy

We are a parish under the omophorion of His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL of the Romanian Episcopate of the Orthodox Church in America.

Our parish family is made up of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, united in One Faith. Our Lord has brought us together and blesses us with a conscious striving to grow in an Orthodox Christian Way of living. By the grace of God,  we experience spiritual growth through our active participation in the Sacramental and Liturgical life in Christ, our ongoing study and contemplation of Holy Scripture and the Living Tradition of our Faith, and a focused mission to serve those in need, particularly in our immediate area.  Some of our members have converted to Orthodoxy from other religious backgrounds.  Our parish is youthful and vibrant. We take joy in the virtue of hospitality towards all who enter our doors.  We welcome families, and strive to accommodate parents with infants and young children, as they, too, are called by Christ to fully participate in the life of the Church.  Our worship Services are in English.

For those seeking to better understand the Orthodox Christian Way, we provide inquirers’ classes throughout the year, as well as fellowship in an ongoing Bible Study Group setting.  The Orthodox Church humbly, yet without hypocrisy  professes to be the Church of Christ, founded on the Apostolic witness to our Lord, born of the Holy Spirit on the day of Holy Pentecost.  In an unbroken mission, for 2,000 years we have been proclaiming to all people the path to salvation through life in His Body: the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

We hope that through this website you will become better acquainted with our Church, with its worship, ministries, educational programs and activities. If you live in the greater Detroit area and do not have a spiritual home or if you have just moved to the area and are looking for a Church, we would like to invite you to join us for Sunday worship, and to get acquainted with our pastor and family in Christ!  Our parish members travel from moderate distances to St. Raphael Church, because we are called together for a purpose.
